Train for the Airplane You’re Becoming Qualified to Fly

At Centerline Aviation Services, we believe strong pilots need both solid stick-and-rudder skills and the ability to manage the technology found in today’s aircraft.

That is why every airplane in our training fleet is equipped with a digital Primary Flight Display (PFD), and most of our aircraft qualify as Technically Advanced Airplanes (TAA).

We made that choice deliberately.

Traditional instruments still have an important place in aviation, and every pilot needs to understand the fundamentals behind altitude, airspeed, attitude, navigation, and aircraft control. But aviation has changed. Modern general aviation aircraft, corporate aircraft, and airline flight decks increasingly rely on integrated displays, GPS navigation, flight directors, autopilots, and sophisticated avionics.

We believe flight training should prepare students for that environment from the beginning.

Build Good Habits Early

Learning to fly is more than learning how to manipulate the controls. Students must also learn how to gather information, manage workload, maintain situational awareness, configure avionics, monitor automation, and make sound decisions while flying the airplane.

Training with modern displays allows those skills to develop alongside basic aircraft control.

Rather than encountering glass-cockpit concepts for the first time later in their careers, our students begin developing familiarity with them during their initial training. 

That does not mean allowing technology to fly the airplane for the student. Quite the opposite.

Our instructors teach students to understand what the technology is doing, why it is doing it, and when the pilot should intervene. Automation should support good aeronautical decision-making—not replace it.

Preparing Pilots for Modern Aviation

 

For students pursuing professional aviation careers, the airplanes will change as they progress, but many of the concepts will remain familiar:

  • Digital flight instrumentation
  • GPS-based navigation
  • Flight planning and flight management
  • Autopilot operation
  • Flight director concepts
  • Mode awareness
  • Systems monitoring
  • Information and workload management

Exposure to these concepts early in training helps students build the mental framework they will continue developing throughout advanced training and their professional careers.

For recreational and business pilots, the same skills are increasingly relevant. Many modern general aviation aircraft use sophisticated glass-panel avionics, making technology management an important part of being a capable, confident aircraft owner or renter.

Fundamentals First. Technology From the Start.

At Centerline Aviation Services, we do not believe students should have to choose between learning traditional flying skills and learning modern cockpit technology.

They should learn both.

Our goal is to produce pilots who can hand-fly accurately, understand the fundamentals behind their instruments, use automation appropriately, manage modern avionics confidently, and remain engaged in what the airplane is doing at all times.

The cockpit has evolved. We believe flight training should evolve with it.
